Myles Garrett is out for Week 12 against Jacksonville

The Cleveland Browns were without Myles Garrett on Sunday during their 22-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

On Monday, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Garrett will be ruled out for the team’s Week 12 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and will remain on the COVID-19 list.

While we knew this could be coming, the news still stings.

On Friday, Garrett was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list after testing positive for the coronavirus. He was held out of practice last week due to symptoms, even before testing positive.

Garrett first reported symptoms publicly last Wednesday. As long as he was able to pull negative tests, he would have met the 10-day return timetable for patients that are symptomatic. However, Stefanski eliminated that process early, ruling out Garrett’s ability to travel with the team to Florida this week.

The Browns defense looked competent without Garrett on Sunday, with defensive end Olivier Vernon tallying three sacks, including a safety. Additionally, Sione Takitaki added a pick-six and Denzel Ward had a fourth-quarter interception. Even without Garrett, Cleveland’s defense has proven to be able to survive.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, have an issue at the quarterback position. Gardner Minshew is recovering from a hand injury and could be questionable to play, while rookie Jake Luton threw four interceptions on Sunday. Veteran Mike Glennon is in that quarterback room as well.

Stefanski declined to comment on how Garrett is feeling, but the superstar pass-rusher could be ready for the team’s road game versus the Tennessee Titans in Week 13.
