3. Mayfield eclipses 300 yards

The fan base continues to get more and more divided on the former number one overall quarterback from Oklahoma, Baker Mayfield. Even with the team seeing some success on the field, Mayfield continues to miss wide-open receivers.

Last week there were two missed touchdowns, and this week there were another two wide-open misses. One was for a touchdown, and another was on a crucial third and short that would have all but sealed the win for the Browns.

In the last three weeks, Mayfield has thrown for 458 total yards and zero touchdowns.  Yes, the weather has been tough, but the inconsistency has just been too much for the Browns to be a great football team. While some may think the treatment of Mayfield is harsh, keep in mind I’m not saying Mayfield can’t play in the NFL. I’m just saying I’m not sure the Browns can be an AFC contender with their current roster and him at quarterback.

The stat line vs. the Jaguars was much better. Mayfield finished the game 19 of 29 for 258 yards and two touchdowns. While the completion percentage wasn’t tremendous, it’s just the two big misses that almost cost the Browns the game that can’t be forgiven. No one wants Mayfield to be great more than me, and fans can look for him to finally break the 300-yard mark this week along with no turnovers.
