Cleveland Browns will have a difficult decision to make with Baker Mayfield

Baker, Baker, the touchdown maker.  Baker Mayfield has been dragged through the mud week in and week out. You know what though? This season through Week 12 compared to last season through Week 12 when everyone was asking what happened to Baker, the numbers are similar in cases.

Baker Mayfield has attempted 81 fewer passing attempts compared to last season.  With his passing attempts per game at 24.5 this season, that would mean that Baker Mayfield has attempted 3.3 full games worth of fewer passes this season.  Maybe that explains the difference in total yards through 12 games. 613 fewer yards this season, but with three more touchdowns, and six fewer interceptions.

A few more positive stats, Baker Mayfield has been sacked 10 times less and six fewer balls batted at the line of scrimmage. Those are both positive signs for a quarterback trying to grow into a franchise guy for this team and this fan base.

Fewer yards, attempts, sacks, batted balls, and interceptions are all acceptable changes. On top of that incorporate the increase in touchdowns, passer rating, and a slight increase in completion percentage and you have clear signs of improvement even with going through new coaches and offenses.

All of those doubting Baker Mayfield need to be a little more patient and at least give him the rest of the season before throwing him out to the wolves. The Cleveland Browns have some tough games coming up to finish the season out and Baker Mayfield will have to show up and lead this team.

The Tennessee Titans this week will be a serious test for this defense and with Derrick Henry running well right now, Baker might be forced to throw the ball more often to give the offense a chance to stay in the game. This will be a big test for the team as a whole but Baker Mayfield especially.
