Touchdowns

"2018: 27 touchdowns (5.6% TD%) 2019: 22 touchdowns (4.1% TD%) 2020: 17 touchdowns (5.8% TD%) 2020 (projected): 25 touchdowns (5.8% TD%)"

The shining light of Mayfield’s season has been his touchdowns. Despite the decreased workload, he has been able to still put as many points on the board and has been doing so more efficiently. The name of the game is scoring points, and Baker Mayfield is very good at that.

Obviously, Baker Mayfield’s ability to continue to score points on a smaller workload is a big reason why the Browns are 8-3 this year and not 6-10 like last season. When your quarterback can throw the ball in the end zone, it also opens up your running backs in scoring situations.

Comparing Baker so far to Kirk Cousins’ 2019 campaign with Kevin Stefanski, this is right about where Cousins was at during that season. Cousins threw for 26 touchdowns on 444 passes, with a touchdown percentage of 5.9 percent, which at the time was the highest in his career. This season, Cousins has been unloading the clip and has scored 23 touchdowns already, with a 7.2 percent touchdown percentage on his throws.

If, when next season rolls around, Baker can continue to have this level of efficiency when scoring touchdowns with a larger workload, that should mask any other issues that fans may have with his play.
