Is Baker Mayfield the future of the Cleveland Browns franchise? That is the question that every Cleveland Browns fan has asked themselves multiple times throughout this season. The team is currently 8-3 and on pace to have their best season since 2007, and maybe even their best season since the Belichick era in Cleveland.

This is all with Baker Mayfield, who has statistically been probably the most inconsistent quarterback in the NFL this season. At times he looks like Russell Wilson, while at other times he looks like Mitch Trubisky. While Baker has developed in some aspects this season, he has regressed in others.

I am extremely glad that I am not Andrew Berry or Kevin Stefanski and have to make the decision about Baker Mayfield. It seems as though Baker can be the future of the franchise if he can continue to receive good coaching and consistency. If I was Stefanski, I would be betting on myself and banking on Baker being the future.

Stefanski and his staff have done a great job in putting Baker Mayfield in a position to succeed, and have helped him develop some aspects of his game. Getting a year two and even a year three in this offense for Mayfield should be enough to help him reach the potential he had when he was first taken as the first overall pick.

Current Baker is not a franchise quarterback, however, if he continues to show signs of improvement and gets another season or two with Stefanski, we could be seeing Baker in a Browns jersey for a long time.
