The Cleveland Browns add another first to their 2020 season

The Cleveland Browns accomplished something today for the very first time since the divisions were realigned in 2002, they swept an entire division. They have been close to accomplishing the feat in the past, but up until today, the best they have finished against any one division in a single season was 3-1. By defeating the Tennessee Titans, the Browns proved they belong with the heavyweights of the AFC, and in the process, they ran the table on the AFC South.

Going into the 2020 season, the AFC South figured to be very competitive with a possible three teams ready to compete for a conference title. Bill O’Brien singlehandedly took the Houston Texans out of contention before the season, even if no one knew it for sure at the time. The Indianapolis Colts and Titans have held up their end of the bargain, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are occupying a space that the Browns used to hold down.

The Browns handled their business against the Colts back in Week 5, defeating Indianapolis by 9 points. Then the Browns took down the Texans following their bye week in a windy affair by a score of 10-7. The game versus the Jaguars in Week 12 proved to be way closer than it should have been, with the Browns getting a 27-25 victory in Jacksonville.

The final nail in the AFC South coffin came against the Titans. Not many pundits and analysts gave the Browns much of a chance to go down to Nashville and beat the Titans, but in a game that was a tale of two halves, the Browns prevailed 41-35.

In a season of breaking old trends and setting new traditions, the Browns now can add another ‘first’ to their list, sweeping an entire division. The Browns might not want to put up their brooms though, in two weeks, they have the opportunity to match their division sweeping feat when they face the New York Giants. The 2020 Cleveland Browns are cleaning up.
