Cleveland Browns Studs and Duds from important Week 13 win
By Mitch Zoloty
Stud: The Entire Defensive Line
Football is a game that is won in the trenches, and the Cleveland Browns won on both sides of the ball. The offensive line played great, and the defensive line arguably played even better. They were constantly in the backfield and were a big reason that the Browns were able to shut down Derrick Henry, who is a top 3 running back in the NFL.
Derrick Henry has been averaging 4.9 yards per carry this season, along with 114.3 rushing yards per game. The Browns defense, and specifically the defensive line, held him to only 4 yards per carry, and 15 touches with 60 total rushing yards. Along with a great performance in the run game, the Browns defensive line also got tons of pressure on Ryan Tannehill. Myles Garrett got yet another sack, and Larry Ogunjobi also got a sack in on Tannehill.
Dud: Jamie Gillan
Most fans may have not noticed, but Jamie Gillan had a bad game today. He only had to punt three times, but he had an average of 41 yards per punt, with a long of 47. His career average is a 45.7-yard punt, and his career-long is was a 71-yard punt that he hit his rookie year. Football is a game of inches, and punting is a huge part of getting your defense in a good situation to succeed.
Today, Jamie hit a 47-yard punt to nail the Titans back at their nine-yard line in the fourth quarter, and that was his best punt of the day. He had a bad punt of 37 yards earlier that put the Titans at their 30, instead of pinning them back inside their own 20.
He also had a 39-yard punt that put the Titans at their own 39-yard line, which really put the Browns defense in a bad spot. Overall he had a pretty bad outing, despite having a good season overall.
