FanSided 250 has been released and the Cleveland Browns have fallen

We here at Dawg Pound Daily might be biased, but we believe the Cleveland Browns have the greatest fan base in the world. And it wasn’t that long ago that the FanSided 250 agreed with us.

Back in 2018, the Dawg Pound came in at No. 1 overall in the annual fandom ranking done by the good people at FanSided. In that ranking, the faithful fans in Cleveland were honored as the top group not only in the football world, but also throughout  all forms of entertainment.

Now just two years later, they have neared the bottom. The recently released FS250 has the Browns as the No. 18 team in the NFL and No. 211 overall.

For what it’s worth, the writers gave the Dawg Pound some love. They praise their passion while also pointing out they’re recognized by a nickname, which is a rarity in fandoms.

"“Can you name many fan sections in sports? Probably not, but if you’re an NFL fan of almost any age, you understand what the Dawg Pound is. The Cleveland Browns have long enjoyed a wild group of hearty fans behind one end zone, screaming for their team while wearing dog masks and creating chaos and confusion for the other team.” – FanSided staff courtesy FS250"

While the kind words are nice, the ranking feels as though there wasn’t enough love given to the fan base. It’s hard to believe that since 2018, the Browns fans have fallen off. If anything, they seem to be more fervent since the team is finally winning.

Sure, this isn’t to say they deserved the No. 1 spot in the ranking — which went to the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers. Still, it’s hard to envision 17 NFL fandoms ahead of the Browns. It’s also shocking to see them appearing lower in the list than Halsey and Baylor basketball.

Maybe it just means the Dawg Pound needs to start making more noise. There’s not a fan base that has been through more yet stayed so loyal.

Their team was taken from them and once returned, it was an up and down stretch that included an 0-16 campaign as well as the current longest playoff drought in the league.

Even with those struggles, these fans have been among the most passionate in the world and surely, that’s going to lead to them climbing in the next ranking.
