The Browns got a steal when they were able to land LSU safety Grant Delpit in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, Delpit suffered a torn achilles in training camp, which left a massive void at safety.

Joe Woods’ defense requires three starting safeties, and Delpit was the only one on the roster who looked like a long-term fit. That’s why it made so much sense when the team traded a 2021 fifth-round pick (the selection they received from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Austin Corbett) to the Jacksonville Jaguars for safety Ronnie Harrison, Jr.

The 6-3, 215-pounder was a third-round pick in 2018 out of Alabama and was solid over his first two seasons with the Jags. It didn’t really make sense for Jacksonville to move on from him, but the Browns took advantage.

It took a few weeks for Harrison to have a significant role, and he’s missed time with injury, but when he’s been on the field, he’s been one of Cleveland’s three best defenders. He definitely looks like a long-term fit with Delpit, and the Browns should be sending an Edible Arrangements to Jags headquarters sometime over the next week.
