After making the decision to trade away star safety Jamal Adams prior to the start of the season, the Jets needed to figure out how they were going to fill the hole left behind in the secondary. And while there are very few players who can fill the shoes of one of the NFL’s most versatile safeties, Marcus Maye has elevated his play and garnered attention around the league with a breakout 2020 campaign.

Maye has been one of the only Jets players who has made his impact felt on a consistent basis. He’s leading the team in interceptions with two in addition to being third in tackles with 41 for the season. Maye has added two sacks and two forced fumbles along with 11 passes defensed, showing his versatility and ability to impact the game in several different ways.

Browns QB Baker Mayfield has been playing the best football of his career over the last five weeks, and he needs to continue being smart and judicious with his decisions. Maye is the kind of player who has the potential to make Mayfield and the Browns pay for their mistakes, potentially changing the direction of the game.

If Mayfield can sustain the level of play he’s demonstrated in recent weeks, he should be able to neutralize Maye’s impact and give the Browns a great shot of picking up their 11th win.
