2. B.J. Goodson, LB

B.J. Goodson has also performed well under the radar for the Browns defense. Goodson was brought in during the offseason in an attempt to replace Joe Schobert who left for Jacksonville in free agency.

Replacing Schobert would be no easy task. Schobert was a tackling machine in Cleveland. In his final three seasons in Cleveland, Schobert had over 100 tackles every season. Because of that, Schobert wanted to get paid this offseason, but the price tag was too much to bring him back to Cleveland. Schobert signed a five-year, $53 million contract with Jacksonville.

The Browns were forced to turn to some more financially friendly contracts to replace Schobert’s production. They decided to go with B.J. Goodson and signed him to a one-year $2.4 million contract.

Goodson is outperforming his contract thus far. His 91 tackles to this point are on pace for 104 on the season, which replaces those 100-tackle seasons we had with Schobert.

He has also fared well in pass coverage. He currently has two interceptions which are tied with Denzel Ward for the most on the team. He also has nine passes defended, which is the most of all linebackers for the Browns.

On top of that, Goodson has also served as the field general for the defense by making sure that everyone knows where they are supposed to be and what they are supposed to do.

It is clear that Goodson has far outplayed the contract the Browns gave him this Summer and they would be well served to offer him another one this upcoming summer. Goodson has played well under the radar against both the run and the pass this season.
