A Cleveland Browns mock draft heading into Week 17

The Cleveland Browns lost to the New York Jets this past week. Nothing more must be said.

Everyone knows what positions the team needs to improve at, so let’s move on to this week’s Browns mock draft, the final edition before the regular season comes to a close.

This week, we’ll be using Pro Football Network’s simulator, and Cleveland is now selecting 22nd overall.

Denzel Ward is very good. The hope was that Greedy Williams, once thought to be a top-five prospect, would be a good complement to Ward. Unfortunately, Williams hasn’t played in 2020 due to a nerve issue in his shoulder, and his future is in doubt. Terrance Mitchell has been mildly adequate as CB2, but he’s not the player you want there long-term.

Caleb Farley is in contention with Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II, and both are likely top-10 selections, so it would take a heavy dose of RNG for Farley to fall all the way to 22. However, we aren’t concerned with realism just yet, so we’ll go with it. Farley opted out of the 2020 season because there wasn’t a whole lot he could do to increase his stock.

He was fantastic in 2019, allowing less than 42 percent of his targets to be caught and picking off four passes. He stands 6-2 202 pounds with room to add more muscle to his frame, and will end up as a CB1 at the next level, so having him and Ward on the outside would be quite the luxury.

Cleveland’s secondary has been atrocious aside from Ward and Ronnie Harrison Jr., and adding Farley, Grant Delpit, and a new starter in the slot would go a long way to making the unit respectable.
