The Cleveland Browns could get help from Greedy Williams

The Cleveland Browns have clinched their first playoff win since 2002 with a 24-22 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

But it wasn’t pretty.

The Browns secondary, who started former undrafted free agent Robert Jackson at cornerback, allowed quarterback Mason Rudolph to throw 22-of-39 for 315 yards and two touchdown passes.

In training camp, Browns cornerback Greedy Williams suffered a shoulder injury that reportedly led to nerve damage. He has not played since.

But after the Browns clinched the postseason, Williams took to Twitter, congratulating his teammates. When asked if he could possibly suit up for Cleveland’s rematch against the Steelers, the former second-round pick left the door open for a return.

“I’m trying to put that (expletive) on!!” Williams replied.

Williams included an iPhone text message screenshot to an unnamed recipient where he texted, “At this point, I think playing is an option.”

Now, it’s completely unclear who that message was sent to. Williams even noted in a reply tweet that it is not a certain possibility until he gets a reply to his text.

What is certain, is that Cleveland’s secondary will need help against Ben Roethlisberger.

Chase Claypool went off for 101 yards and a touchdown. Dionte Johnson followed that up with three grabs for 96 yards. JuJu Smith-Schuester added 65 yards and a TikTok dance in the endzone after a touchdown grab.

The Browns will possibly be without Denzel Ward, who is on the team’s COVID-19 reserve list after testing positive for the virus.

In mid-December, head coach Kevin Stefanski also left the door open for Williams’s return, despite putting the second-year corner on the injured reserve.

“It’s what it’s been. We continue to check-in and he continues to rehab like crazy…I can promise you he’s working very hard,” Stefanski said.
