Week 17 instant reactions: Cleveland Browns end playoff drought
By Randy Gurzi
Chubb makes history
The first touchdown run from Nick Chubb made history in two different ways. One way it made history was that it was the first touchdown by a Cleveland player against the Steelers covering more than 40-yards on the ground since Jim Brown in 1958.
Chubb also made history by becoming the first running back to score 12 touchdowns for the Browns since 1968, and he did it despite missing four games this season.
In his first three seasons with the Browns, Chubb has already proven to be one of the best running backs this franchise has ever had. He has more than 1,000-yards in the past two seasons and it would have been three had he not lost a couple of yards on his final two carries in his rookie campaign.
Jarvis was missed in Week 16
For the first time in his career, Jarvis Landry had to miss a game in Week 16. He was one of the four wideouts who wasn’t allowed to play against the New York Jets due to being in close contact with a staffer who had COVID-19. Without Landry, the Browns offense simply wasn’t the same.
While his numbers in this one didn’t jump off the page, he did have a few big plays including a couple of third-down grabs as well as a three-yard rushing touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter that made it a 24-9 lead for the Browns.
Landry has been a constant leader for this team and he continually delivers when called upon. Perhaps if he played in Week 16, this game would have never had so much riding on it.
