The Cleveland Browns have landed two on Pro Football Focus’s All-Pro team

The Cleveland Browns have had one consistent point of play all year, the offensive line. Two of those players were chosen as part of Pro Football Focus‘s all-pro team. While most may have expected Joel Bitonio or maybe J.C. Tretter on the list, it actually was a guy who was supposed to compete for a job and a free agent that had been good but not great after some knee issues.

The right side

Yep, Wyatt Teller and Jack Conklin are now the PFF All-Pro right side of the playoff-bound Browns. The effect Stefanski’s system and offensive line guru Bill Callahan has had on these two players have been significant to how their seasons have gone. We have seen a young player grow into a force in the running game, helping turn the Browns into a top-five ground attack and a solid right tackle return to his former all-pro caliber self with what may have been the best season of his career.

The improvement on this side of the line has been an incredible benefit to both Nick Chubb’s running and Baker Mayfield’s throwing leading an offense that landed in the top ten in the NFL. Teller and Conklin combined to give up only 29 total pressures and five sacks on the season per PFF. Keeping Mayfield clean and upright in the pocket has lead to Mayfield’s best NFL season. Mayfield finished the year with a career-high QB rating of 95.9 and a total QB rating of 72.4. The latter stat finished ninth in the NFL.

The improved run blocking took Chubb’s average yards before contact from 2.1 in 2019 to 2.9 in 2020, per Pro Football Reference. Kareem Hunt went from not being in the top 50 to finish 41st in the NFL at 1.9 yards before contact. Add that to the fact these are two of the most elusive and best tackle-breaking runners in the NFL, and you get the third-best running game in the NFL.
