Jack Conklin

Conklin came to the Browns this past offseason via free agency after spending his first four years in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. Conklin would make a big splash as an all-pro in his rookie season. For the next three years, Conklin remained a solid player for the Titans.

While his run blocking has always been elite, the pass blocking fluctuated from year to year. He remained a solid pass protector, but that part of his game was questioned a bit come free agent time. Conklin has answered with the finest PFF year of his career.

"“The Cleveland Browns had arguably the best offensive line in football this season — at least as long as everybody was healthy — and one of the reasons is that every move to improve the line they made in the offseason hit, but none more than Jack Conklin. The former Tennessee Titan allowed just 15 total pressures all season and earned PFF grades of at least 78.0 as both a run-blocker and pass-protector. It is worth noting that most of the best tackle play this season came on the left side, and if we were selecting just the best tackles, both first and second teams would likely be composed of players only from the left side.” – Sam Monson Pro Football Focus"

Those grades placed Conklin as the eight best tackle in the NFL per PFF. His overall 84.3 grade is the highest of his career. The Browns three year $42 million investment looks like a brilliant move so far. If he can keep this level of play up, another big contract could be on the horizon for the 26-year-old tackle.

Teller, Conklin, and the rest of the stellar Browns line will be put to the test in Sunday night’s Wildcard game against the Steelers’ formidable front.

Win or lose, the Browns linemen have proven they were the best group in the NFL in 2020, and with all of them under contract, 2021 looks promising as well.
