These are the defining games for Baker Mayfield

The Cleveland Browns didn’t fare well in the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Quarterback Baker Mayfield looked rattled most of the day as he completed 21-of-39 passes for 189 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The Browns lost 38-6.

Many believed that Mayfield was the same quarterback we saw a season ago and that the Browns would continue to be a laughing stock of the NFL. However, Mayfield wasn’t just going to roll over and accept defeat.

Over the next four weeks, Mayfield led the Browns to four straight victories, passing for eight touchdowns and two interceptions. The excitement was building in Cleveland. The Browns then traveled to Heinz Field, a place they hadn’t won at in 17 years, and got trounced 38-7. The Browns dropped to 4-2. But then, things changed as we see the four games that defined Baker’s growth this season.

4. Week 7 at Cincinnati

A week after their loss to the Steelers, Baker Mayfield took matters into his own hands after a horrendous 0-5 start with an interception on the very first play, which subsequently resulted in the loss of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for the season with a torn ACL.

Then the Browns history book was re-written thanks to Mayfield completing his next 21 passes, setting a new franchise record. In the process, Mayfield connected for five touchdowns passes to four different receivers, including the game-winning, 24-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones with 11 seconds left to play.

This was the first of multiple defining games for Mayfield.
