Cleveland Browns: 3 key matchups against the Kansas City Chiefs
1. Baker Mayfield vs Patrick Mahomes
Ultimately, the most important matchup of this entire game will be between the two quarterbacks. The quarterback that plays better is most likely going to be on the team that wins. It’s pretty simple.
Patrick Mahomes is a perennial All-Pro quarterback and that doesn’t look like that is changing any time soon. Baker Mayfield has blossomed into a franchise quarterback and proven that he can hang with the top quarterbacks in the NFL over the last couple of months.
This game has all of the pieces to be a high scoring affair. Both offenses have remained some of the most elite throughout the season while both defenses preside near some of the worst in the NFL. It’s a given that Mahomes is going to put up points against the Browns defense. It’s going to be Mayfield’s job to match Mahomes.
Mayfield has spent the last couple of months running a smooth offense and not turning the ball over. No. 6 has become a great game manager and he is the biggest reason for the Browns’ success up to this point. But he’s going to have to have one of his best games if he wants to hang with the Chiefs.
This game is going to be a high-speed, high-scoring affair. Mahomes is used to these and has proven he can do it every week for the last couple of seasons. Mayfield has also begun to prove that he can do it as well, but he doesn’t quite have the consistency and track record that Mahomes has.
This matchup between former college teammates is going to be the biggest indicator of who is going to win this game.
