Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is the ultimate teammate

A second-round pick back in 2018, Nick Chubb is already proving to be the best running back the Cleveland Browns have employed since they returned to the NFL in 1999.

As a rookie, he initially topped 1,000-yards before losing a few yards on his final two carries which left him at 996 for the year. Since then, he has crossed the 1,000-yard plateau in each of the past two seasons — even though he missed four games in 2020.

Even without those four games, Chubb had 1,067 yards and finished with a career-high 12 touchdowns. The prior year, he had 1,494 yards and eight touchdowns while finishing second in the NFL in yards on the ground.

And in typical Nick Chubb fashion, the soft-spoken star was quick to praise his teammates and point out that the success he has had is due to them. When Chris Hassel from CBS Sports spoke with Chubb, he asked him about the offensive line and the third-year running back said they deserve more credit than he does for their ground attack.

Chubb didn’t stop there as he said the offensive linemen set the tone and should be credited for the success of the offense as a whole. That’s some pretty big praise from one of the better-known stars on the team, and it’s also true.

This offseason, general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski made fixing the O-line a priority. They signed Jack Conklin and drafted Jedrick Wills to shore up the tackle positions. They also added one of the best offensive line coaches in the league when they signed Bill Callahan.

With all that put together, the line went from the biggest weakness in 2019 to the strength of the team in 2020.

Even so, there’s not nearly enough credit given to the Browns’ impressive line but Nick Chubb wanted to make sure we all know that they’re the straw that stirs the drink in Cleveland.
