The Cleveland Browns came up short this season but they proved they belong. Here are three defenders who they could add in 2021 to take the next step

There are no Cleveland Browns fans who are happy with how the 2020 NFL Season ended. Sure, they got far in the playoffs and had the defending NFL Champions on the ropes, but they also lost a game they had an opportunity to win.

While we can point out the time management errors, the missed helmet-to-helmet, or the worst rule in the NFL (the touchback on a fumble), the fact is, this team needed to be perfect to beat the Chiefs. And that’s because their roster still has too many holes on it — primarily on defense.

The good news is, general manager Andrew Berry has shown that he has an eye for talent. With that being said, he should be able to find some solid help this offseason in free agency, and these are three names on the defensive side of the ball to keep an eye on.

3. Cameron Sutton, Cornerback

Browns fans might know the name Cameron Sutton simply because he plays for a hated rival — the Pittsburgh Steelers. A former third-round pick out of Tennessee in 2017, Sutton had durability concerns when he entered the league and missed 11 games a rookie. Since then, he has missed just one game in each of the past three seasons and really turned a corner in 2020.

Sutton started six games for the Steelers and finished with a career-high in tackles (30), pass defenses (eight), and forced fumbles (three). Coaches in Pittsburgh have been raving about his growth as a player and while they might want him to return, their salary cap situation isn’t exactly ideal.

For that reason, the Browns can come in and steal one of their rivals’ star players, while also improving their struggling secondary.
