4. EDGE Trey Flowers

Trey Flowers is a player that many wanted to pair with Myles Garrett in 2019. Like Olivier Vernon, he doesn’t log a ton of sacks, but he generates consistent pressure and plays the run very well. In fact, he’s almost identical to Vernon in frame (6-2, 265 pounds ), and their athletic testing is similar as well. The Browns seem to want a power end playing opposite of Garrett, and Flowers would fit that description.

He signed a five-year $90 million contract with the Lions and still has three years remaining on that deal. He would cost the Lions $31 million in dead cap if traded this offseason, which is a major roadblock to any deal, but if the compensation were right, they would probably consider trading him, since they aren’t likely to use that money anyway.

Flowers would cost less than $14.5 million against the cap next season, with hits of $16 million in 2022 and 2023. He could also be cut for $5.6 million in 2023, which is when Garrett’s extension kicks in – his cap hit jumps from just under $13 million in 2022 to over $29 million in 2023.

There are bound to be better fits on the EDGE market this offeason, but Flowers is a very good player who fits exactly what Cleveland is doing from an on-field standpoint.
