Cleveland Browns: 5 trade targets in the event of a Lions fire sale
By Sam Penix
2. CB Amani Oruwariye
After a solid career at Penn State, Amani Oruwariye fell to the fifth round where he was selected by Detroit. At the NFL Scouting Combine, he measured 6-2, 205 pounds, ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash, and logged a 36.5-inch vertical jump.
He was very good in limited action as a rookie, but wasn’t able to sustain that level of play as a full-time player in 2020. Considering the number of players who regressed last season for the Lions, it’s not unreasonable to think that Oruwariye still has plenty of untapped potential.
The Browns don’t have much at the CB position, and have even less young talent. For a late Day 3 pick, Oruwariye would be worth taking a flyer on, and could even move to safety if the team feels he’d be better there. Late Day 3 selections face uphill battles to make playoff rosters, so getting a young player with NFL experience would be a solid bet to hedge.
At best, Oruwariye rediscovers his rookie form and Cleveland gets a solid corner for a very low cost. At worst, they get a depth DB and a solid special teamer. Perhaps the front office would rather draft their own guy, but this is a move the Browns should at least consider.
