The 35th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Georgia, Nick Chubb has quickly become one of the most popular players on the Cleveland Browns roster. He’s a throwback player who lets his performance do the talking, and so far, it has said plenty.

In three seasons, Chubb has 3,557 yards and 28 touchdowns as he’s proven he can get the yardage in chunks — while also churning out the hard-fought short-yards as well.

Now as he enters his fourth season with the team, the question about his contract is bound to come out. 2021 will be the final season he’s under contract with Cleveland and while they can franchise tag him after the season, it would likely be best for both parties to agree to a deal this offseason.

That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Cleveland Browns News

Will the Browns extend Nick Chubb’s contract this offseason? Hey, Mary Kay! — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“Chubb is heading into the final year of his contract, and the Browns must decide if they’ll extend him or let him play out his rookie deal and then possibly franchise him him for 2022. The latter option would give them two more years of Chubb at an average of about $6.5 million to $7 million a year ($1.48 million for his 2021 base, and about $12 million for the 2022 franchise number) which would be a bargain for a running back of his caliber. Or, the Browns could decide to extend him this offseason and sign him to a creative deal that rewards Chubb but also protects the club.”"

There are a couple of things at play when it comes to Chubb’s deal. One is the fact that he has had some knee issues in the past and did miss four games this past season. They also have Kareem Hunt under contract for the next couple of seasons, although we all know by now that Chubb is the better option of the two.

In addition to all this, running backs on second contracts often disappoint. Still, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Browns role the dice on Chubb and give him an extension.

Browns LB Mack Wilson’s reaction to Patrick Mahomes being cleared to play is everything — Charles Goldman, Chiefs Wire

"“Once Mahomes officially cleared the protocol on Friday afternoon, Wilson sent out a final tweet on the matter: “Prayer has been answered.. Go ball out 15!”"

Hopefully this will put to rest the notion that Mack Wilson was trying to hurt Mahomes. There was nothing malicious about the hit and trying to suggest as much seemed to be a stretch. Throughout it all, Wilson handled the accusations well and continued to show respect for Mahomes, proving to be a class act.

The 3 Browns moves that could change the defense like 3 moves last offseason changed the offense — Doug Lesmerises, Cleveland.com

"“It’s probably not realistic to expect two huge free agent signings with what the Browns have ahead in taking care of their own young, franchise players. But let’s still use the Wills-Conklin-Hooper model for what could be ahead for the defense.”"

Lesmerises has an interesting plan here that includes one rookie and two free agents. The most interesting name on the list has to be Bud Dupree, who would fill a need and would also weaken the Steelers.

The Browns offense might not have a lot of spots up for grabs but Matt McFatridge still highlights three free agents they should target as they look to improve in 2021.
