The Daily Dawg Tags look at a couple of trades that won’t be happening

The offseason always brings us Cleveland Browns trade rumors but no, Odell Beckham, Jr. is not going to the Jets and Deshaun Watson isn’t heading to Northeast Ohio. Of course, that won’t stop the rumor mills from turning.

OBJ has been a lightning rod for trade speculation ever since he landed with the Browns in 2019 and after the team took off following his ACL tear, the rumors only grew. The latest includes some speculation that the Jets could be looking to make a move for his services. While he would surely help them, that’s not a likely scenario.

Even less likely would be the Browns trying to get Watson and his monster contract when Baker Mayfield just had the team one touchdown drive away from an AFC Championship Game appearance.

Trade talk surrounding those two players are the featured articles in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Scott Petrak: Deshaun Watson is a better QB than Baker, but he’s not worth what the Browns would have to give up to get him — 92.3 The Fan

"“Scott Petrak joins Baskin and Phelps and breaks down Championship weekend in the NFL and his thoughts on how the Browns would’ve stacked up against the Bills.”"

Yes, Watson is the better player right now but his contract is much higher than Mayfield’s and if we are being honest, we still don’t know how good Baker is going to be after a full offseason in the same system. This is a first in his career and he was dueling with Patrick Mahomes in his last outing, so let’s not act like he can’t become one of the most feared passers in the game. No reason to even entertain this one.

Odell Beckham Trade: Browns Star Linked to Jets — J.R. De Groote, Heavy.com

"“Former NFLer turned radio host Dan Sileo suggested on Twitter Monday that the rumor he is hearing is that the Jets are in the market for Beckham in hopes of attracting disgruntled Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.”"

Ok, so Watson and OBJ are linked together in this one as the belief is that the Jets could try and lure Watson if they had Beckham. Of course, that would mean the Browns needed to be willing to trade Beckham and there’s been no indication of that. And on a separate note, drafting Justin Fields and saving the $40 million per season wouldn’t be a bad idea — but that’s for a different site to suggest.

5 trade targets in the event of a Lions fire sale

With the Detroit Lions likely to lose Matt Stafford this offseason, there could be a mass exodus as they entertain a rebuild — and look for players who like to bite knee caps. With former Browns GM John Dorsey helping the front office, Cleveland could look to a familiar face and try to land some of their players.
