Could the Cleveland Browns continue to build up LSU North?

In the last two drafts, the Cleveland Browns have gone with three former LSU athletes. Greedy Williams and Grant Delpit were both perceived as high value picks in the second round as minor flaws kept both from being first-round picks. Williams has been limited in action with a shoulder injury that kept him off the field for the entire 2020 season but did show glimpses of having talent as a rookie in 2019.

Delpit was a highly touted safety that was expected to be a day one starter in 2020 as a rookie, but an Achilles injury in camp never allowed that to happen. Third-round linebacker Jacob Phillips also faced some knee issues in 2020 as a rookie, but in his game action, he showed a real nose for the football and has an athleticism element the Browns need.

2021 NFL draft prospect Jabril Cox could be the next likely Cleveland Brown’s target as he continues to shine at the Senior Bowl. Currently, a third-or-fourth-round prospect, Cox’s stock could continue to increase into the late second to the early third round.

Cox remains an under-the-radar talent because he only played one year at LSU after transferring from North Dakota State where he won three national titles and dominated in every aspect of the game. He was still adjusting to the SEC game speed at times last year, but he continues to prove he could likely make a quick transition to the NFL.

The LSU linebacker has strong coverage skills, great explosion, and is a fantastic athlete which is exactly what the Browns need at the position. At 6-4 and 230 pounds, Cox not only has the skillset for the NFL, but he also has the perfect frame. Cox has the ability to fill gaps and drop into coverage on third-and-long which is rare in the NFL anymore.

Not only would Cox be a perfect fit for Cleveland, but it could also open the club’s options in the first two rounds with other needs like edge rusher, cornerback, and wide receiver.

Remember, the Browns own two picks in the third and fourth round, so they have plenty of assets to make a move up to snag Cox if needed.
