David Njoku refused comment on if Cleveland Browns are the right team

David Njoku didn’t want to comment on his future while on The Jim Rome Show
Former first-round pick David Njoku had a rough season in both 2019 and 2020. He missed time in 2019 due to injury but when he returned, he found himself in the dog house with former Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens.
In all, he played in just four games and had a career-low five catches for 41 yards. Then Kitchens was relieved of his duties and in came Kevin Stefanski ‚— who brought some optimism for Njoku since he was known for running a two tight end system.
Then, confusion set in as the Browns added Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant in the offseason. Njoku again found himself in an odd spot and he had just 19 receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns. With another frustrating season behind him, Njoku took some time to reflect as he spoke about what he went through on The Jim Rome Show.
Njoku was quick to point out that he absolutely loves both Hooper and Bryant but admitted he was confused, saying it put him in an “interesting position.”
"“At first it put me in an interesting position. I was confused because the Browns took my fifth year (indistinct) and they got all these other tight ends.” — Njoku on The Jim Rome Show"
After he spoke, Jim Rome asked Njoku the question many Browns fans want to know — even after everything that happened, does he still believes this is the right team for him. Njoku refused to answer that question, saying while it was a good one to ask, he doesn’t have a comment at this time.
Rome responded with a simple “I get that” and if we are all being honest, we should as well. Njoku proved more than once in 2020 that he was the most athletic tight end and there were times he appeared to be the best pass-catcher on the team. However, he was never on the field consistently and after two seasons of being under-utilized, it would be crazy to think he didn’t wonder where he could be of better use.
For Cleveland, they did exercise the fifth-year option on his contract and would surely like to keep him as insurance. But Njoku has already once requested a trade and his refusal to speak on the subject could mean another request might be on the way soon.
