2. Romeo Okwara – Defensive End

One player that increased his stock in 2020 was former undrafted free-agent, Romeo Okwara. After starting his career in New York with the Giants, Okwara is coming off a career year where he recorded 10 sacks and 44 tackles with the Detroit Lions.

After the injury to Olivier Vernon, it seems more and more likely that he will not be returning to the team in 2021. With that, there is a huge void opposite of Myles Garrett who is one of the best pass-rushers in the league now.

Okwara would be the perfect fit for the Browns opposite of Garrett, and he could potentially have an even bigger year in 2021 with likely one on one opportunities with so much attention on Garrett. While the Browns will likely have an interest, the Lions will also likely look to re-sign, but the new regime may also look to bring in their own guys.

Okwara is young and athletic which will make him attractive and could drive his price tag in the $11-12 million per year, even though his true value is likely closer to $8-9 million per year. The Browns don’t often overspend, but defensive end is one position you could see Berry splurge.

The big question will be, do you pay a veteran more per year who only has a year or two left? Or, try and get a better value signing like Okwara who could be a long-term answer. There’s always a risk of signing a three-or four-year contract with someone that doesn’t pan out, but Okwara seems worth the risk.

Expect Berry to sign a young free agent who has shown he can produce. Additionally, the Browns will likely draft an edge player in the mid to late rounds to see if they can find a steal. Okwara will be a hot commodity, but the thought of playing alongside Garrett could break the tie for the Browns.
