The Tackles

The Good news for the Cleveland Browns, they are set at tackle for at least the next two years (praying for no injuries). The No. 10 pick from 2020 Wills is under contract through 2023 with a team option for 2024. With his rookie contract and strong performance in 2020, he is as friendly of a contract as the Browns have on the team.

Wills made the jump from right tackle in college to left tackle in the NFL and made the transition seem easy. At times the speed rush would bother him, but he did a tremendous job in pass protection and moves well in the zone run scheme. It doesn’t appear he’s the next Joe Thomas, but certainly will be looking for a big contract in the next two to three seasons.

The best free-agent signing of the year by Berry was Conklin at right tackle who ended up being a first-team all-pro in 2020. While Conklin did miss a game plus a few snaps because of injuries, he was nothing less than spectacular in 2020. T.J. Watt from the Steelers had ruined the Browns in past seasons off the edge and Conklin ended that last year which was a huge sigh of relief.

Conklin is a guy who could get another extension from the Browns but may also want to test the free agency waters after the 2022 season because of the money that could be thrown his way. While the Browns don’t have any burning prospects at tackle, they are in great shape for the next few years and have time before they must think about drafting and developing anyone to start.
