2. Marcus Williams, Safety

At first glance, it would seem as though safety isn’t a major need for the Browns. They ended 2020 with Ronnie Harrison, Karl Joseph, and Andrew Sendejo as the primary players at the position. However, Joseph and Sendejo are both free agents and it’s unlikely Sendejo returns.

Bringing Joseph back on another one-year deal would be wise but he and Harrison are both better closer to the line of scrimmage. In Joe Woods’ scheme, three safeties are utilized often with one playing in a hybrid linebacker/safety role — which both Harrison and Joseph could handle.

What they need is a deep safety and while they should be getting Grant Delpit back, they have no idea what he might look like following a missed rookie campaign due to a torn Achilles. Counting on him without adding another player might not be a great idea.

Instead, the Browns could look to add another option that would help Delpit ease into the season. While the draft could be an option, they could also look to add Marcus Williams from the New Orleans Saints.

Williams is set to cash in and the Saints are still roughly $80 million over the cap, meaning the Browns will have a chance to make a pitch to him. Adding Williams would give Cleveland a safety who had 13 career picks and 30 pass deflections in four seasons. It would also vastly improve their secondary, which is much-needed.
