Which NFL quarterbacks should be ranked ahead of Baker Mayfield?
By Nick Swanson
Russell Wilson – Seattle Seahawks
Trade Possibility: Wouldn’t be surprised if it happened
Russell Wilson is certainly an interesting quarterback. His game speaks for itself, and as of recently, it’s not a good thing. Wilson has never once received an MVP vote in his career and that was a big deal heading into the 2020 season. He lit it up in the first half of the season before completely falling apart as he’s done many times before. He’s got the receivers, he’s got the running backs, and he’s got a better offensive line than they’re given credit for.
Wilson has consistently shot himself in the foot throughout his career. He has the same problem that Deshaun Watson used to have, he would run into pressure. He consistently puts himself in situations where he rolls out or doesn’t step up into the pocket and then finds himself running for his life because he goes right into a defender. His arm talent is incredible, and he’s already got a Super Bowl ring but that can’t excuse him for his poor play. Towards the end of seasons, we see him making these plays that keep other teams in the game.
What consistently puts him in the elite quarterback conversation is his incredible arm and early season play. His accolades are already great but there’s still room for him to improve. His arm and his accuracy really set him apart and mask how poorly his awareness is and how he may be the problem. A change of scenery may be the solution for him, who knows.
