The Cleveland Browns need help on the EDGE and Matt Lombardo says Jayson Oweh could help them in that department

It’s draft speculation season and there are plenty of different ways the Cleveland Browns can go in the 2021 NFL Draft. That makes it interesting to try and predict exactly what they can do once they’re on the clock at No. 26.

It’s not being debated much at all that the Browns should go with a defender when they are on the clock and cornerback seems to be the top choice. However, they could also go with a linebacker (please no) or an edge rusher — and FanSided’s Matt Lombardo has one particular EDGE in mind who could help them in Jayson Oweh.

Lombardo wrote an article on Victory Bell Rings recently where he identified three teams that could be ideal landing spots for Oweh and the Browns were one of those clubs. He cites the fact that Oweh could develop across from Myles Garrett as one of the reasons, saying Cleveland could give him the time necessary to develop.

"“While Oweh did not produce a sack in his final season in Happy Valley, his athleticism is going to push him up draft boards. It remains to be seen if he will maintain his speed and explosiveness if asked to put on 15-20 pounds during an NFL conditioning program, but the Browns have enough talent in their front-seven to allow Oweh to develop. Cleveland also could weaponize Oweh as a pass-rushing outside linebacker as well as having him put his hand on the dirt.” — Lombardo, Victory Bell Rings"

Oweh is an intriguing prospect that has a high ceiling but there could be questions about his floor. As Lombardo points out, he needs to add some weight to make it in the NFL but his athleticism is off the charts and his height and length are ideal for playing defensive end in the NFL.

In three seasons with the Nittany Lions, Oweh had 63 tackles, 13.5 for a loss, and seven sacks. He also forced two fumbles and knocked down a couple of passes.

Cleveland needs to add depth to the defensive line and while they would likely want to add a day one starter at No. 26, Oweh could be in consideration thanks to the long-term impact he could have for them.
