Is Marshon Lattimore eyeing his hometown team, the Cleveland Browns?

The New Orleans Saints are a cap space nightmare right now.

And cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who is entering the fifth year of his rookie deal, probably realizes that.

Lattimore, who is owed just over $10 million, is likely seeking a new deal, as he will be a free agent in 2021. As it stands right now, New Orleans might not be the place where that long-term contract takes place.

On Tuesday evening, the Glenville High School and Ohio State alumni fired off a cryptic tweet, showing his hometown some serious love.

Now, Lattimore’s tweet does not insinuate that he demanded a trade. It does not mean he hates New Orleans. Nothing is imminent. But…

The Cleveland Browns (unlike New Orleans) have the cap space to pay for Lattimore’s fifth-year and beyond. Pairing him with fellow ex-Buckeye Denzel Ward would alleviate a ton of problems in Cleveland’s secondary. While Greedy Williams is still a viable option as the counterpart to Ward, the Browns will probably seek an upgrade due to the severity of Williams’s shoulder injury.

Cleveland would have to acquire Lattimore via trade, which again, is possible.

The Browns own nine draft picks in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft, the Saints would likely look to acquire some of that capital, as those rookies would be cheap to help them avoid paying any unnecessary money.

If the Browns really want to compete for a Super Bowl, they probably need Lattimore more than they need nine rookies, depending on the price. As much as the Browns would love to add talent in the draft, Lattimore is a three-time Pro Bowler with 10 career picks who will instantly improve their defense.

Next. Browns should definitely re-sign Rashard Higgins. dark

General manager Andrew Berry has a history of trading with New Orleans, as the Browns were able to trade down with them in last year’s draft. Perhaps another deal could be in the works, and the Browns could benefit from a team heading towards a rebuild.
