Trades, trades, and more trades in this 7-round 2021 Cleveland Browns mock draft

Trading down is always a popular move in the NFL Draft, so the Cleveland fanbase should be absolutely thrilled when the Cleveland Browns do it this April.

In this week’s Browns mock draft, we take trading down to the extreme and end up with a boatload of future capital, not to mention some great talent for this upcoming season.

We’ll be using Pro Football Network’s simulator, which made some very interesting offers throughout the first three rounds.

It’s not too often that division rivals trade with each other. So the Browns don’t pass up this opportunity to fleece the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland moves down just one spot and turns a late third-rounder (the one acquired in 2020’s third-round trade with the New Orleans Saints) into a 2022 second-rounder.

Moving down from 27, the Browns gain Denver’s second and sixth-round selections next year. Baker Mayfield. Nick Chubb. David Njoku. Wyatt Teller. Ronnie Harrison. Denzel Ward. These are just some of the names that will be coming up on the end of their contracts soon.

Cleveland cannot keep everyone, and must begin preparing for life without some key players. Adding high-value picks will help to replace those deemed too expensive.

The cycle ends here, as the Browns stand pat and take an instant starter in the secondary. Asante Samuel, Jr. may be undersized, but he plays larger than his frame and doesn’t lack in any other department. He’d provide a major upgrade over Terrance Mitchell opposite Denzel Ward, and while it may not necessarily be Samuel, it would be very surprising if Cleveland’s first pick was not a cornerback.
