The Cleveland Browns need help in the secondary and apparently, they’ve met with Greg Newsome out of Northwestern as the draft approaches

We all know Denzel Ward is legit. The former No. 4 overall pick is not just the Cleveland Browns best defensive back, but he’s one of the top corners in the game — when he’s healthy.

Unfortunately, health has been an issue for him but it’s been even worse for Greedy Williams, their second-round pick from 2019 who has played just 12 games in his career. With both Ward and Williams having their own issues with durability, the Cleveland secondary was exposed big time in 2020.

Simply put, they need more talent at cornerback and that’s where many of us are expecting the team to go when they’re on the clock at No. 26. And as expected, the front office is apparently already doing their due diligence in speaking with the top corners in the 2021 NFL Draft — including Greg Newsome II from Northwestern.

According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, Newsome has already met with the Browns virtually — as well as several other teams.

Newsome is generally projected as an early second-round pick but targeting him at No. 26 doesn’t seem to be out of the question. He has great length at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds and has broken up 20 passes in his career.

He’s known for being able to play the ball in the air and disrupt wideouts but he has only been able to record one pick in his career. That’s not exactly a knock since Jaycee Horn of South Carolina has just two and he’s been considered one of the top two corners by some draft pundits.

Cleveland will surely meet more corners than Newsome as they make the rounds leading up to the draft, but it’s clear they are already addressing this spot as a major need.
