The Cleveland Browns perfect offseason checklist
6. Extend Wyatt Teller
Right guard Wyatt Teller was arguably the Browns’ best offensive linemen in 2020 and was a huge part of their successful run game. He started out as a necessity trade from the Bills during the John Dorsey era but has blossomed into one of the NFL’s best linemen.
With all that being said, paying Teller is going to be a challenge for the Browns but it is a challenge that must be accepted. The key to the team’s success in 2020 was with the offensive line. A good offensive line is mandatory in Kevin Stefanski’s offense and they will value Teller over several other pieces on the team.
Teller could command over $10 million per year but the Browns need to pony up to keep this group together. It has the potential to be the recent Cowboys offensive line where almost every lineman was making the Pro bowl.
The biggest problem is with other contracts coming up soon and still trying to bring in free-agent talent, money for the Browns will have to be found. They are already allocating over $50 million a year to their offensive line.
If the strength of the Browns is in their offensive line then that is where they should pour their money into, and that means pouring some major coin into Teller’s pocket. Another year with Pro Football Focus’s best offensive line could take the Browns offense to the next level.
If the Browns can somehow achieve all of these things this offseason, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be the favorite in the AFC North and one of the favorites in The AFC.
