Dominance up front on defense

While Tom Brady was great in 2020, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers don’t come anywhere close to a title last season without that tremendous defense. So, while so many want to focus on scoring a ton of points, the Browns must address a defense that was just awful last season, especially the front seven.

Myles Garrett may be the best pass-rusher in the league (at least top-three), but to fully utilize his talents, the Browns must find someone to go alongside him. Olivier Vernon did that in spurts over the last two seasons, but unfortunately, injuries prohibited this from being a solid solution.

Another above-average talent at the defensive end spot would take so much pressure off Garrett, as teams couldn’t just double-team him every single play. Not only that, a little additional pass-rush would be a tremendous help to the secondary as the ball would be out much quicker.

Berry is a smart man, and I expect this to be the one position he is willing to spend big on in 2021. While the Browns may not sign a huge name like Von Miller, look for them to bring in a top-five free agent pass rusher to take this defensive line to the next level.

This position of need will also likely be addressed in the draft this season. While it could be an earlier pick if someone Berry like slides to them, I would expect a later round edge rusher with a high ceiling to be taken to see if he can be developed into something down the road. This player will have low expectations for 2021 but could be a part of the puzzle down the road.
