Cleveland Browns get more explosive on both sides in 7-round mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
It’s would be no surprise at all to see Cleveland continue to add defenders throughout the 2021 NFL Draft. They were simply dreadful on that side of the ball and we also know the secondary was a big part of the problem.
Getting Greedy Williams and Grant Delpit back should help, as will the addition of Trill Williams, who we added in the third round of this mock. Even so, there’s a need for more help in the secondary with both Andrew Sendejo and Karl Joseph set for free agency.
With that in mind, Cleveland uses their first of two picks in the fourth round on Texas safety Caden Sterns. An experienced starter for the Longhorns, Sterns is a capable centerfield-type of safety who can add some much-needed depth to the position with the potential to develop into more down the road.
A transfer from Arizona, Tony Fields II found success both in the Pac-12 and Big 12 during his collegiate days. He’s smart, instinctive, and athletic which is why he’s always racking up a high number of tackles.
Fields is undersized at 6-1 and 222 pounds but he makes up for the lack of size with his speed and range. He’s another developmental player, but fills a position of need for this defense.
