Philadelphia Eagles – Jalen Mills, Safety

For the Philadelphia Eagles, there weren’t a ton of great, standout players to choose from in this year’s free agency class. I must sound like a broken record at this point, but I can’t emphasize enough the importance of having a, at the very least, halfway-decent secondary. Out of the players that are available, I have no choice but to choose Jalen Mills.

Mills, in his first year as a safety, had a surprisingly great year for learning the position at an NFL level and adapting. A career-high in sacks, tackles, tackles for loss, forced fumbles and quarterback hits, Mills elevated himself to a different level this past season with the Eagles, becoming one of the few, if not the only, bright spots on that team.

Before transitioning to safety, Mills played cornerback for the Eagles and was quite the player there as well. His versatility would help the Browns out tremendously in case of an injury or other acquisition. He’s an instant upgrade over what Andrew Sendejo was in 2020 and it could be argued that he played better than Karl Joseph as well. He allowed less than 400 yards as the targeted defender and only allowed two touchdowns all year.

Mills might not be the biggest name or the best available player at his position, but he may be the most reasonable acquisition. He’s definitely the best free agent from Philadelphia that the Browns should pursue since he helps fill a position of need and he’s shown previous success.
