Cleveland Browns: 14 safety targets in free agency
By Sam Penix
6. John Johnson III – Los Angeles Rams – 26
John Johnson has gone from a third-round pick in 2017 to one of hte league’s best all-around safeties. He typically plays in the box, but consistently rotates to slot corner and deep safety. That versatility will make him a coveted player on the open market, and he’d be an excellent fit in Cleveland. Whether the team will be willing to pay what he’ll demand is another question.
5. Rayshawn Jenkins – Los Angeles Chargers – 27
Another versatile safety, Rayshawn Jenkins took on a larger role with the Chargers in each successive season of his tenure with the team. The Browns will need starting-caliber players as “backups”, and Jenkins could be a fit as a rotational piece who can fill multiple roles, playing starter-level snaps.
4. Damontae Kazee – Atlanta Falcons – 27
A torn Achilles ended Damontae Kazee’s 2020 after just four games, and that injury will have a major impact on his market considering its severity. He was great in 2018 but wasn’t able to repeat that performance in 2019. Depending on his price, he could be a nice bounceback candidate on a short-term deal. He also provides flexibility, logging snaps at both safety spots as well as slot corner.
