Which pending free agents do the Cleveland Browns need to re-sign in 2021?

The tampering period opens on March 15 and while that two day period makes no sense at all, it gives teams a chance to start talking to free agents.

For the Cleveland Browns, most of us have been focused on how they can improve the roster with a few additions but that’s not the only way they can get better in 2021.

Another focus needs to be on keeping their own free agents who were contributors in 2020. Here, we look at three free agents who were with the Browns last season that they need to try and keep from joining a different squad this season.

3. Vincent Taylor, DT

One of the more overlooked players on the roster in 2021 was nose tackle Vincent Taylor. Originally a sixth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2017, Taylor spent two seasons with Miami before landing with the Buffalo Bills in 2019. He was then waived in Sept. 2020 and the Browns claimed the 6-foot-3, 311-pound defensive lineman.

As far as statistics go, Taylor didn’t make a splash. He finished with 12 tackles in 15 games with one start but his impact was felt beyond that. Taylor started to see the field more down the stretch and he gave the Browns a player capable of filling gaps in the running game and then even started to generate some pressure as a pass rusher.

While Andrew Billings will return in 2021, Cleveland would be wise to sign Taylor back as well since Billings hasn’t played since 2019. Taylor proved he can handle the job in spurts and he would help the team get Billings back into playing shape.
