The Cleveland Browns continue to upgrade their defense in free agency, this time by signing Troy Hill to a four-year contract

Once again, Andrew Berry got his man. The Cleveland Browns general manager has been making some solid moves during free agency and now just signed cornerback Troy Hill.

Hill will join a former teammate from Los Angeles as the Browns first big signing of this offseason was former Rams safety John Johnson. Their first signing of the offseason, Johnson ended up earning a three-year contract worth just under $34 million which is a steal for his talent.

The same can be said of Hill, who ended up signing for an average of $6 million as reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Hill has been in the NFL for six seasons and has 218 career tackles with seven picks (all of which came in the past three seasons). In 2020, he had three interceptions for the Rams and returned two for touchdowns.

For the Browns, this move signals another commitment to fixing their secondary. Easily the weakest spot on the defense in 2020, they’ve let Terrance Mitchell exit in free agency and seem prepared to do the same with Kevin Johnson.

Now adding Hill — and hoping for a return to health for Greedy Williams — helps their cornerback corps improve. The same can be said for safety as they seem content to let Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo walk in favor of Johnson and Grant Delpit — who is also returning from an injury.

Cleveland might not be done, but even if they were, they’ve already been winning in free agency and this is another home run from Berry.
