Cleveland Browns 7-round mock continues defensive rebuild
By Greg Newland
Ar’Darius Washington is a safety from TCU that would likely be a second-round pick if he were four inches taller and 25 pounds heavier. At 5-foot-8, 180 pounds, Washington is undersized for the position but continues to be productive.
Washington is all heart and is fluid in coverage. What he lacks in height he can make up for in his leaping ability. Washington is not afraid of contact and can be a huge asset in run support. However, Washington is undersized and has very average speed. At times his aggression can be used against him to give up big plays.
Washington wouldn’t come in and see the field, but he could be a great backup to Grant Delpit who will play the rover position in 2021.
Perhaps no one lost more by returning for their senior year last season than Ohio State cornerback, Shaun Wade. As an Ohio State fan, I can say it was painful to watch his season implode, but it also made me realize how out of position Wade was.
Wade plays with too much hesitation to be a corner at the next level, but he does possess tremendous ball skills that will increase his stock as a safety at the next level. He seemed to give very little effort last season which will be tough to overcome.
Teams must be confident that Wade is willing to work. The risk is worth the reward here and Wade would be a nice backup option in 2021 to John Johnson.
