If the Browns don’t land Jadeveon Clowney (or another quality veteran EDGE, like Melvin Ingram), they may be in trouble, since this draft class lacks a good day one starter at the position outside of Michigan’s Kwity Paye, who should be long gone by the time Cleveland is on the clock at pick No.26.

However, there are plenty of great developmental prospects to be had a bit later on, and Elerson Smith is one of the most talented. He logged 14 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, and five forced fumbles in 2019 and opted out of the 2020 campaign.

He stands a slim 6-7 and 252-pounds and will need to add mass and strength to play on the edge full-time in the NFL. Smith is an elite athlete, as he posted a 41.5 inch vertical and 10-7 broad jump to go along with a quality 7.11-second three-cone time, showing he has the requisite bend to be a starter in the league.

Due to his slight frame and collegiate level of competition, he isn’t ready to be counted on immediately but should be able to find a role with the Browns as a designated pass rusher as a rookie, with the potential to develop into a high-level starter opposite Myles Garrett.

Another long and athletic corner, Benjamin St. Juste is listed at 6-3 and 205 pounds and shows off rare short-area quickness and agility. He’s likely suited best as an off-man corner in a cover-3 scheme, and while he does need some work, could provide quality depth as a rookie.

Melifonwu and St. Juste would give the Browns two big corners for a defensive  scheme that can make great use of them.
