Browns mock draft: Cleveland stacks roster in 7-round mock
By Sam Penix
The Browns may not need a running back now, but after this season…well, let’s not go there just yet. The thought is too painful.
Kene Nwangwu doesn’t have a ton of production, but that’s because he played behind David Montgomery and Breece Hall in college. He is an elite athlete in every sense of the word and his 4.32 speed would give Cleveland a home run threat in the backfield.
Nwangwu would play a reserve role as a rookie and could take over as the starter in the future. He also averaged 26.8 yards per kickoff return at Iowa State, so he’d be in serious contention to earn that job for the Browns in 2020.
One of the most underrated players in the class, Zech McPhearson may not be a great athlete, but he’s good enough in all physical areas and provides great versatility, as he’s able to seamlessly transition from the slot to the outside and up to safety. Playing defensive back in the defenseless Big 12 is not an easy task, and he did it well.
Yes, it’s Zech with an ‘e’, not Zach with an ‘a’.
At this point in the draft, the Browns are looking for great athletes or proven producers, and William Bradley-King falls into the second category. He put up two great pass-rushing seasons at Arkansas State before playing a solid 2020 at Baylor.
He doesn’t have the elite sack numbers that Curtis Weaver had at Boise State, but he’s similar to Weaver in that Bradley-King generated consistent pressure through superior technique rather than athletic ability. He stands 6-4 248 pounds and lacks the burst and bend you want in a starting EDGE, but perhaps he can add some weight and overcome his subpar athleticism through craftiness.
With this class, the Cleveland Browns would be well-positioned to make a Super Bowl run in 2021 and beyond, with starting-caliber depth at key positions and the potential for those players to develop into great starters down the line.
