Cleveland Browns Daily Dawg Tags: Make or break year for Joe Woods?
By Randy Gurzi
The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a question about Joe Woods and his future as defensive coordinator
In his first season as Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator, Joe Woods had to deal with several key injuries that depleted his secondary.
On top of that, the Browns were weak in some of the more important positions on defense including defensive tackle and edge. For those reasons, and more, the defense was a complete mess in 2020.
That mess led to some cries for Woods to be out after just one season but Kevin Stefanski did the right thing in giving him another shot to prove he’s the right guy for Cleveland. But how important is this coming year for Woods?
After general manager Andrew Berry added John Johnson, Troy Hill, Anthony Walker, Malik Jackson, and Takk McKinley, the expectation is that he should be better in 2021. There are also those who are asking whether or not this is a make or break year for the current defensive coordinator in 2021.
The story on what the expectation for Woods should be this season, and more, can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Make or break year for Joe Woods? Browns and OBJ’s future? Hey, Terry — Terry Pluto, Cleveland.com
"“The Browns added depth and speed on defense, and needed both. I don’t think Woods has to worry about losing his job. He has a relationship dating back to Minnesota, where he worked with Kevin Stefanski. But as the Bible says, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” Woods has been given a lot in this offseason.”"
Woods isn’t going to be facing a make or break season unless the team just continues to be terrible. Right now, it feels like the issues they had in 2020 were more about personnel. So, he should be fine.
"“In the beginning, it was kind of hard to watch,” Billings said Wednesday in an interview with Cleveland Browns Daily. “But after a while, you just miss it, so I’d go to NFL Game Pass and just watch and study the plays and see what we were doing.”"
Andrew Billings is ready to get to work one year after signing his contract with the Browns. It’s weird but it sure felt like Cleveland missed him last season despite Billings never suiting up for them. Having that big run-stuffer is surely going to make a difference.
