1. Neville Hewitt

A guy that has been underappreciated by this free agency is Neville Hewitt. Unfortunately, he has always played for bad teams and just doesn’t get the appreciation that he deserves.

Some will argue that he is another average player that stands out on a bad team, but the guy had 134 tackles in 2020. I don’t care how bad your team is, that is impressive.

In my opinion, Hewitt is only still available because he is asking for too much money and teams are hesitant if he can perform on an elite defense. But in the last two seasons, he has become a great NFL linebacker.

Hewitt is the best fit for the Browns as he is a bit of a hybrid at only 234 pounds. He’s tough enough to play against the run but also has the athleticism to play sideline to sideline and run with tight ends in coverage.

He’s also a guy that could come in and be an instant starter with Walker and making Phillips the third linebacker. Not only that, if an injury does happen, that extra depth makes it a much easier pill to swallow.

Berry may have his mind made up that Takitaki or Wilson are going to be the third guy, but if he can get a guy like Hewitt at a discount late in free agency, it should be a pretty easy decision to send one of those guys packing.
