The Cleveland Browns make some moves in this mock draft

The Cleveland Browns currently own nine selections in the 2021 NFL Draft, and given the current shape of t he roster, it seems highly unlikely that the team will roster nine rookies.

Look for general manager Andrew Berry to make some deals, just as he did in this hypothetical scenario. These trades will be based on compensation for similar deals over the past few seasons just to provide some sort of realism.

TRADE

CLE receives: 2021 mid-40s pick, 2022 second-round pick in exchange for 1.26

Given the uncertainty to this draft class, and the fact that Cleveland will need to begin planning for the departure of talent in the future, it makes sense for the team to collect additional capital in 2022.

Moving down to the early-middle part of the second round in exchange for a second-rounder next year would be a prudent move, as it would still keep the Browns in a good position to land a quality defensive back or wide receiver.

Florida State. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 2.45-ish. player. 804. CB. AsanteSamuel Jr.

Asante Samuel is undersized, but he’s an excellent player. He has the instincts, quickness, and short-area agility to cover just about anyone. There will be times when his size disadvantage is an issue, but on the vast majority of snaps, he won’t be overmatched by a significant amount.

Pairing Samuel with Denzel Ward for the next four-plus seasons would give the Browns a really good cornerback duo to hang with the AFC’s top passing offenses.

It would be best not to rely on Greedy Williams this upcoming season, and instead, count anything he can provide as a bonus. The Browns should sign a veteran boundary corner and draft one as well; a team can never have too many cornerbacks, and Cleveland simply does not have enough at the moment.
