The Cleveland Browns haven’t given up on Jadeveon Clowney and the team is even working on bringing him in Monday per a report from Josina Anderson

For the second offseason in a row, the Cleveland Browns have been making a push for defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. And for the second offseason in a row, they’ve stayed persistent in that pursuit.

In 2020, the reports indicated that Cleveland offered Clowney more money than anyone else but he ended up signing with the Tennessee Titans — most likely due to the belief they were closer to being a competitive team. On top of that, Tennessee had his former defensive coordinator, Mike Vrabel, as their head coach which surely helped.

Fast-forward to 2021 and Cleveland is again in pursuit and now, it appears they want to set up a second visit with the free agent. According to Josina Anderson, that meeting could happen as early as Monday.

A former No. 1 overall pick in 2014 out of South Carolina, Clowney spent his first five seasons in the NFL with the Houston Texans before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2019. That year, he played under the franchise tag that Houston had placed on him as he tried to parlay that into a long-term deal.

He proved to be a disruptive player but was still not re-signed in Seattle after recording just 31 tackles and three sacks. In Tennessee, his numbers were worse as he had 19 tackles and no sacks in eight games before suffering an injury.

Despite the low sack numbers, Clowney continues to be a force on the edge of a defensive line. That’s not really the concern. The real worry comes from his durability.

In seven NFL seasons, Clowney has missed a total of 29 regular-season games. He’s suited up for 16 games just once, and has also missed time in the postseason.

That’s probably the biggest reason teams aren’t throwing a long-term contract at him, but even so, it seems as though he still has a home in Cleveland if he wants it.
