Pick Analysis. player. 881. Scouting Report. EDGE. Houston. PaytonTurner. 2.59

The 2022 EDGE room currently consists of Myles Garrett and nothing else. None of Clowney, Takk McKinley, Porter Gustin, or Curtis Weaver seem like Garrett’s long-term pass-rushing partner, so while the depth chart might look solid at the moment, it’s just for the moment. EDGE is a premium position, so it will take a premium pick to land a good prospect.

Payton Turner is a bit of a late riser, but he seems like a perfect fit opposite Garrett. Turner has excellent size at 6-5 268 pounds (he played at 290 pounds as a sophomore, lining up inside more often) and is extremely explosive and agile. He has the bend to win around the edge and the power to win inside. He has the versatility to line up as a rush tackle on passing downs, and won’t need to be relied upon as a starter right away.

Turner can play behind Garrett, Clowney, and McKinley, but is too athletic to keep off the field entirely. When the Browns run NASCAR fronts, he could play one of the tackle spots along with Clowney, while Garrett and McKinley rush from the edge. With a year of development, Turner could take over as the starter in 2022 and give the Browns perhaps the most athletic EDGE duo in the NFL.
