Re-grading the Cleveland Browns 2018 NFL Draft

Round 2, Pick 35: Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia
Nick Chubb was wasted early in his career by former coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley. They continued to feed Carlos Hyde who was a good running back, but Chubb proved early on that he was special.
Eventually, Dorsey shipped Hyde off so the staff was forced to use Chubb. He started nine games as a rookie while playing all 16 and had 996 yards (he did cross the 1,000-yard mark but then lost four yards on his last couple of carries).
That’s proved to be the only time he has gone under the 1,000-yard mark, even hitting it in 2020 when he had to miss four games due to a knee injury. In all, Chubb has 3,557 yards and 28 touchdowns and feels as though he’s just getting started. This proved to be the best pick made when considering the player’s value and where he was taken.

Round 3, Pick 67: Chad Thomas, DE, Miami
Cleveland traded out of the final pick in the second round and ended up drafting again early in the third. The player they landed with that selection was Miami defensive end Chad Thomas, and it never worked out.
Thomas looked the part at 6-foot-5 and 278-pounds but there were questions about his commitment — some even said he was more focused on his music career than football. He played in 20 games in two seasons and had 26 tackles and four sacks but was released ahead of the 2020 season. Not ideal.
